Dr James Eadie is the Founder and Director of the Guyana Cooperative Medical Education Program. Dr Eadie completed the MGH-B & W Harvard Residency in Emergency Medicine in 2004 and is now serving in the United States Air Force as an attending emergency physician at Wilford Hall Medical Center at the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Dr John O’Brien is the Assistant Director of the Guyana Cooperative Medical Education Program and has logged more miles traveling to Omni Med program sites than any other core member. Dr O’Brien has traveled to Omni Med programs in Kenya, Belize (5X), and Guyana (5X), sharing his teaching skills with colleagues at each site. John E. Varallo, MD, MPH Director - Guyana Cervical Cancer Prevention Program and Program Coordinator for Reproductive and Women's Health – Guyana Dr. Varallo is an Ob/Gyn who recently completed his MPH in Global Health Promotion at George Washington University School of Public Health. He has traveled to Omni Med program sites in Belize and Guyana. Since 2004, Dr. Varallo has traveled to Guyana nine times, with 2-week quarterly visits started in the fall of 2007. Mrs. Loretta Garcia Palacio has served as the Omni Med Director in Belize since 1998. Belize-born, Mrs. Palacio owns and runs Belize City’s WorldCom Technologies, a respected center for computer training and education. Mrs. Palacio has served as a consultant to the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, and is an active volunteer within the Garifuna community and the Catholic Church. She can be reached at lgpalacio@worldcombelize.bz | |||

Dr Edward O’Neil Jr. first traveled to Belize in 1997, and with the help of Dr Eadie and many health and government officials in Belize, developed the Belize Cooperative Medical Education Program, which has sent a US physician to teach roughly five times yearly since 1999. This program has become one of the main sources of continuing medical education for health providers throughout Belize. Dr Bill Fryda is a Mayo Clinic trained oncologist and Catholic priest who founded St Mary’s Hospital in Nairobi. He is profiled in the book Awakening Hippocrates: A Primer on Health, Poverty, and Global Service. Dr Fryda has spent over 25 years in East Africa and built one of the developing world’s premier hospitals in St Mary’s, which serves the poor of Greater Nairobi. Construction is currently underway to build a “St Mary’s West” in Elementita, and land has recently been purchased to build a third St Mary’s near Mount Kenya. Omni Med has an affiliation with St Mary’s and has shipped over $500,000 worth of medical supplies there since 2000, with plans for physician recruitment for the medical education center’s training needs in the future.
