Malaria and Insecticide Treated Nets
Uganda continues to face one of the world’s highest malaria burdens, with thousands of cases reported weekly in Mukono District alone. Pregnant women, children under 5, and people living with HIV are especially vulnerable. Omni Med’s malaria program focuses on protecting these groups while empowering entire communities with knowledge and tools for prevention.

Our 2025 Goals:
-
Distribute 1,800 long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to the most vulnerable.
-
Increase awareness about malaria transmission, prevention, and treatment.
-
Highlight the physical, mental, and financial burden malaria places on families.

Our objectives are to raise knowledge, encourage healthy practices, and ensure nets are properly used. Communities were sensitized on the new malaria vaccine (introduced in April 2025), the importance of medication adherence, and maternal health practices during pregnancy.

School Programs
Children learned malaria lessons through interactive games, followed by net distribution.

House-to-House Outreach
Partnered with Red Cross to distribute nets and educate families on malaria and ebola.

Mini Medical Camp
Provided HIV screening, counseling, mental health talks, hypertension screening, malaria sensitization, and safe sex education.

World Malaria Day Event
With local leaders, health workers, Peace Corps, and the U.S. Ambassador’s representative.

Support for Vulnerable Groups
Focused outreach for people living with HIV and refugee lake communities.

Malaria Sensitization and Distribution
Determination of beneficiary communities through meetings with VHTs and Health Centers. Malaria Sensitization and distribution of LLITNs in communities paired with hypertension screening.

Our History in Malaria Prevention
For over a decade, Omni Med has been committed to protecting families from malaria in Mukono District and beyond. Through strong partnerships, evidence-based programs, and a focus on community ownership, we’ve built a foundation that continues to guide our work today.
Our Programs
2010
TAMTAM
(Together Against Malaria)
Omni Med partnered with TAMTAM (Together Against Malaria) in Ntenjeru sub-county to distribute and hang insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) for local villagers.
-
This effort led to a 30% increase in net usage locally.
-
It marked the beginning of Omni Med’s long-term focus on ITN distribution and monitoring.
2015
ICATCH Program Launch
We received a three-year grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics ICATCH (International Community Access To Child Health) Program.
-
Omni Med trained Village Health Teams (VHTs) to distribute ITNs and track results across villages.
-
Our model empowered VHTs as ITN Monitors—ensuring that families, especially children and pregnant women, used their nets consistently and could access replacements when needed.
2017
Integration into Enhanced VHT Model
The third and final year of ICATCH funding marked a new chapter:
-
Omni Med incorporated ITN distribution into its Enhanced VHT model, expanding the program’s reach and sustainability.
-
While Uganda runs large national distribution campaigns, many households remain underserved—nets are often lost, torn, or worn out. Our monitoring-focused approach helped close these gaps.
