President, Omni Med Uganda, Board Member
Mwebe Edward
Edward is a local resident of Nsumba village, where his parents were born and raised. Trained as a Village Health Team (VHT) Member in May 2009, he has worked tirelessly to educate his neighbors about the critical health issues facing their communities.
Now, as president, Edward takes the hard work and positive attitude that he practiced at the local level to the larger context of the Sub-County, organizing VHT Trainings, coordinating quarterly meetings, and providing invaluable oversight of the VHT Program.

Chief Medical Officer
Kenneth Kabali, MD, MPH
Dr. Kabali is a public health physician trained at Makerere University in Kampala. He lives in Ntinda with his wife and children.
Dr Kabali overseas all of Omni Med's operations, teaches & supervises all student volunteers, and helps the staff with strategic vision and execution. He has been a driving force behind our research efforts, and has co-authored several research publications with Omni Med. He began working with Omni Med in November 2015.

Chief Finance Officer
Hamala Rebecca
Rebecca is a resident of Mukono and a 2016 graduate of Makerere University where she earned a degree in Development Studies. After graduation, she worked with Mukono District NGO Forum as an administrative assistant for two years. She joined Omni Med in November 2018.
She is passionate about extending a hand to other people and is excited for the opportunity to be a part of Omni Med and help to improve the health of people in different communities of Mukono.

Associate Director
Namanda Allan Saul, MPH
Allan graduated from Kyambogo University in 2016 with an honors degree in Development Studies and holds a certificate in Human Resource Management from Makerere Centre of Business and Management Sciences.
He joined Omni Med in December 2018. Allan has enjoyed assisting James O'Donovan with his research and helping bring more health knowledge to the community. His work ethic and ability to fill a variety of roles have made him a wonderful addition to our staff.

Program Manager, OUMHP
Magulu Jolly, CAMHC, EEG TECH, PCO
Jolly graduated from Makerere University and joined Omni Med in Spring 2025. Jolly is a licensed clinical psychologist and oversees the Omni Med Uganda Mental Health Program, including quarterly training of VHTs in psychosocial skills, and the SEEK-GSP intervention implementation.

Lead VHT Supervisor
Luyiga Cissy
Cissy is a VHT for Kiyoola village in Kiyoola parish. She works with Omni Med as a supervisor for VHTs across seven sub-counties that have been trained in taking blood pressure measurements. She also assists in our daily fieldwork by leading quarterly trainings, conducting home visits, and acting as a translator. Initially a part-time worker with us, she became full-time staff in 2021. Cissy is a single mother with four children.

Research/Strategic Coordinator
Anna Ngo
Anna graduated from University of Texas in 2025 with a degree in Neuroscience and joined Omni Med in September 2025. The research/ strategic coordinator serves as the liaison between Omni Med staff and visiting volunteers, helps to coordinate research activities, and is intimately involved in all aspects of our programming, including field work.

Customer Support Lead
Nalukomo Ruth, Prossy, Tusubira Judith
Ruth (left), Prossy (middle), and Judith (right) are VHTs that have taken on caretaker roles for everyone at Omni Med. They are wonderful cooks and keep the compound clean. Ruth, Prossy and Judith always give our volunteers a warm welcome and are considerate and accommodating to any special requests. They are a valuable part of our work and always make sure our staff and volunteers are comfortable.

Omni Med Security
Olal Bonny, Sebbowa Ronald, and Kisulo Brian
Bonny (right), Sebba (middle), and Brian (left) are the dedicated security guards who watch over the Omni Med compound 24/7. Their presence ensures that our staff, volunteers, and partners feel safe and supported at all hours. In addition to their professionalism and vigilance, each of them brings a calm, friendly presence that contributes to the welcoming environment we’re proud to maintain. Whether greeting visitors at the gate or keeping a watchful eye overnight, they play a crucial role in everything we do.

Founder & President, Omni Med, Board Member
Edward O’Neil Jr., M.D.
Dr. O’Neil is the founder and president of Omni Med. He works as an emergency staff physician at Boston Medical Center-Brighton, in Boston, MA, and is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He founded Omni Med in 1998 and since 2008, he has led the development of Community Empowerment in Health in Mukono, Uganda.

Dr. O’Neil earned his Medical degree from George Washington University, and completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center. Dr. O’Neil completed the three-year Kellogg National Leadership Program, studying leadership, international development, and politics.

Director, Omni Med Uganda Mental Health Program, Board Member
Alexander von Hafften, MD
Dr Lex von Hafften is a psychiatrist in Anchorage, Alaska. He received his MD from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1987 and completed his psychiatric training at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle Washington and Adjunct Professor at the WWAMI School of Medical Education, University of Alaska, in Anchorage Alaska.
He began work with Omni Med in 2016 and has worked with government officials, academics at Makerere School of Medicine in Kampala to develop Omni Med's mental health program. He joined the Omni Med Board in the spring of 2022.

Strategic Leadership, Board Member
Kathryn E. Johnson
Ms. Johnson is the former CEO of the Health Forum, a position she held for 25 years. She continues on its board, and is Vice Chairman of the Film Institute of Northern California. Ms. Johnson is a graduate of Indiana University and earned her masters degree in Organizational Behavior at Boston University.
She was selected Woman of the Year in 1992 by the Women Health Care Executives of Northern California and in 1993, she received the Key Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American Society of Association Executives. She was named the 1995 recipient of the UniHealth America Foundation’s prestigious Pinnacle Award. In 1998, she was honored by the Women’s Business Network for her outstanding leadership in Association Management.

Ms Johnson is a visionary leader and supports Omni Med to structure its plans several years into the future. She also serves on several health related boards, including the World Food Program, Nuru, and Medshare.

Strategic Leadership, Board Member
Roger H. Sublett, Ph.D
Roger H. Sublett, Ph.D. was named Union Institute & University’s fifth president in April 2003, and announced his planned retirement in late 2018. He earned his B.S.E. and M.A. degrees from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. in American History from Tulane University.

Dr. Sublett served as the executive vice president for the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) 1984-1989 and the president of the Coalition for Adult Education Organizations (CAEO) 1989-1990. He serves on the President’s Forum and is vice chair of the American Council of Higher Education’s Lifelong Learning Commission. Between 1989 and 2001, Dr. Sublett served as the director of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation’s Kellogg National Fellowship/Leadership Program and Program Director in Higher Education and Leadership at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Dr Sublett is the one who first suggested that Omni Med be formed and has served as a board member since its founding in 1998.
Past Research/ Strategic Coordinators
Omni Med has provided a one-year opportunity for recent college graduates to serve in the role of Research/ Strategic Coordinator in Uganda for many years. The research/ strategic coordinator serves as the liaison between Omni Med staff and visiting volunteers, helps to coordinate research activities, and is intimately involved in all aspects of our programming, including field work. The role provides a unique window into a global health NGO's operations, along with a deep understanding of life in rural Uganda. The coordinator lives in comfortable housing at the Omni Med compound in Makata, Mukono District, with easy access to Kampala or Jinja on weekends. Room and board are provided, along with a monthly stipend. The position is ideal for someone interested in global health before embarking on a career in medicine or public health. here are only six coordinators pictured here because several Peace Corps Volunteers filled the position partially in between Drs Tabb and Mays, and we did not open the position from 2020-2022 due to the Covid Pandemic.

2008 - 2010
Dr. Zachary Tabb
Zach graduated from the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in Rhode Island and is a Pediatric resident at Baylor University in Houston, Texas. He worked with Omni Med for most of his 29 months of Peace Corps service in Uganda in 2008-10, coordinating and leading much of our earliest efforts. He helped us train 406 VHTs serving 73,000 people, and co-wrote our hybrid training manual with Dr Jenny Thompson.

2014 - 2015
Dr. Daniel Mays
Daniel completed his Internal Medicine/Primary Care resident at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He undertook graduate studies in global health policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and spent 9 months working with Omni Med in Uganda. While there he performed a study that assessed how VHTs can be better supported in their work and retained over time.

2016 - 2017
Margarita Chukhina
Margarita completed a duel MSW/MPH degree from the University of Maryland prior to joining Omni Med. While working with Omni Med, she facilitated and is a co-author of the 2018 Tablet Trial, in the Research section. Since completing a year at Omni Med, Margarita returned to the US and dove into doing global health work on a larger scale. She currently works as a program manager for So Others Might Eat (SOME Inc.) at one of their supported housing buildings for individuals who were formerly homeless and/or returning citizens.

2017 - 2018
Dr. Christina Stiles
Christina graduated from Bates College in 2016. She served as the Omni Med Research/ Strategic Coordinator from August 2017 through July 2018. She subsequently attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, graduating in May of 2022.
While in Uganda, she helped to coordinate the Tablet Trial and subsequently was the lead author of the paper, "The Use of Low-Cost Android Tablets to Augment In-Service Training of Community Health Workers in Mukono, Uganda: Perspectives and Lessons Learned from the Field." Please see link in Research section.

2018 - 2019
Hannah Behringer
Hannah graduated from Bates College in 2015. She served as the Omni Med Research/ Strategic Coordinator from June 2018 to August 2019. It was a challenging year during which Hannah worked with Omni Med staff and many contractors to move our operations into our current compound in Makata. After completing her work with Omni Med, Hannah completed an MPH in Global Epidemiology at Emory University in Atlanta in 2018. She currently works for Booz Allen Hamilton in Atlanta.

2019 - 2020
MacKenzie MacRae
MacKenzie graduated from Bates College in 2016, where she majored in Neuroscience and Philosophy. She completed her Masters in Biomedical Sciences from Tufts University in 2019 and then worked in Uganda as the Omni Med Research/ Strategic Coordinator from July 2019 until March 2020 in a Covid-shortened year. MacKenzie coordinated the arrival of many volunteers through January 2020. She is currently a medical student at Tufts University in Boston, MA.

2023 - 2025
Kristin Carbin
Kristin graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Public Health Science. During her two years with Omni Med in Uganda, she coordinated the arrival of many volunteers, helped rebuild programs after Covid, and led initiatives in mental health, hypertension screening, and cervical cancer prevention. She also coordinated the distribution of 1,800 mosquito nets and conducted extensive malaria education across communities. Kristin has extended her Peace Corps service for a third year, working in Kampala.
